Top 3 tips to avoid being scammed on Discord
In the NFT world, the community usually is engaged by chatting on Discord. However, they are also susceptible to be scammed by tempting messages. Here are the top 3 tips on how to stay safe/avoid being scammed:
- Always disallow direct messages from server members.
Direct messaging from server members are one of the most common ways of getting scammed. What the scammers would do is to drop you a message that looks too good to be true and after connecting your wallet to the links which they have provided, that’s where it’s their turn to empty it for you. Some common messages like “You’re selected for a private sale!” or “You have won 1ETH!” are how they bait you into getting scammed.
- Avoid clicking on links and connecting your wallet on untrusted sites
Some channels allows links to be shared on the chats so do be wary on what you’ve clicked. They could duplicate a site that is similar to how the official site looks like to bait you into trusting them. If you’ve clicked in, do avoid connecting your wallet onto their site which would allow them to gain access into it.
- Always use links from #official-links channel
Most NFT projects would have an #official-link channel where they would post the links of their project information such as website, OpenSea account and social media links. These are the only links which you can ensure that they are safe!
Remembering these 3 tips could help you avoid losing your digital assets and keep you safe!
